Capacity Building for Transformative Youth Organizing

Our capacity building efforts aim to foster, deepen, and build YO! Cali organizations and the capacity of the broader field of youth organizing to integrate and implement these five key elements fundamental to Transformative Youth Organizing:

  • Base-Building
  • Leadership Development
  • Campaigns
  • Healing and Transformation
  • Movement Building

We do this by focusing on training opportunities, peer-to-peer learning, individual and organization capacity building, healing and transformative practices, and creating pathways for the next generation of youth organizers. Our key capacity building programming includes:

1.    Youth Organizing Institutes

Regional Institutes and Gatherings create a space to bring youth organizing staff and membership together to build skills, analysis, and relationships with each other through workshops with practitioners in the field, site visits, and collective strategizing, imagining, and creativity.

2.    Emerging Organizers Fellowship

This 9-month leadership development opportunity is for emerging youth organizers dedicated to personal and social transformation and collective liberation. Through the fellowship young people and organizations increase their capacity to build power and create long-term transformation in marginalized communities. More info here.

3.    Peer Learning

Regional and Statewide peer learning opportunities provide spaces for staff and young leaders to share best practices, tools, and lessons from the field to build the collective strength of our movements. From panels, to peer exchanges, to coaching circles, we build the knowledge of our field from the ground up.

4.    Regional and Statewide Trainings

Ongoing learning opportunities with practitioners in the field to deepen the skills, strategies, and practices of transformative youth organizing.
